AURUMEN – Studio

AURUMEN is an artistic studio founded by Julius Wachter and Anna Szekely, dedicated to the development and realization of three-dimensional wall objects of the highest calibre. The works emerge from a refined synthesis of material, structure and visual effects. They are conceived not as objects in the classical sense, but as living, spatial systems in which perception, depth and movement continually shift for the viewer.

The creations of AURUMEN are based on bespoke constructions where material, form and surface constitute an inseparable unity. Depending on the conceptual direction, the presentation ranges from frameless, purist elegance to custom-fabricated enclosures. Where frames are employed, they are created in close collaboration with a specialized partner, precisely calibrated to the respective object, and contribute significantly to the overall presence within the space.

Underpinning this artistic vision is many years of rigorous research and development. For several years, Julius Wachter and Anna Szekely have worked intensively with resin as an artistic medium. In an autonomous process, numerous methods were tested, refined and reimagined. This has yielded specific techniques and technological solutions that form the foundation of their contemporary oeuvre.

Julius Wachter brings an extraordinary combination of artisanal and technical experience to the studio. His multifaceted background encompasses copper-working, master carpentry, and scenic design for theatre. He has developed and manufactured crystal chandeliers and lighting fixtures, and has worked as a conservator. Furthermore, as a graduate engineer in plant construction, he directed projects in international shipbuilding, notably serving as plant manager in the luxury ocean liner sector. This profound expertise shapes the precision, structural clarity and deep technical quality that are palpable in every detail of the artworks.

Every creation by AURUMEN is entirely unique. The themes deliberately vary and do not adhere to a rigid series, for the decisive factor is not the motif, but the pure relationship between material, space and the interaction with the environment. The works are executed in various formats and integrate harmoniously into sophisticated architectural contexts. In addition, individual pieces can be bespoke and developed in close alignment with the specific space. AURUMEN thus represents an entirely independent position at the intersection of art, material research and technical innovation.

This artistic evolution unfolds across three distinct conceptual lines:

RESONANCE (Echo Matter)

This collection deliberately dispenses with any frame, captivating the viewer through pure, minimalist elegance. The foundation is a deep black panel, refined through a sophisticated process. Upon this flawless, highly reflective substrate of noble resin, the three-dimensional objects are staged. Although these works are unilluminated, a fascinating optical depth is generated solely by the ambient light of the room and the reflections on the deep black surface, dynamically altering the artwork as it hovers directly upon the wall.

These works are created within specially developed 3D frame constructions and utilise the dynamics of controllable RGB light, which is diffusely scattered across an opal acrylic surface. Through the precise interplay of colours, the sculpture is in a constant state of transformation, immersing both the artwork and the surrounding space in ever-changing atmospheric moods. “Primordia” is a captivating sculptural origin narrative in pure casting resin, drawing the viewer into the fiery centre of creation. A highly complex central relief of geometric resin cubes, sharply defined crystals, and deep-black bars is embedded within a flowing, cosmic field of colour. Nuances of glowing golden yellow, deep ocean blue, and intense magenta merge in the background into a fluid matter. Golden pigment veils and metallic speckles run through the work, lending it an elegant, mineral-like texture. In contrast to the frameless first collection, this artwork is elegantly enclosed within a striking, deep-black structural frame.

The true secret of “Primordia” is revealed in its spectacular capacity for transformation through light. While the work presents an opulent, tactile depth under neutral front lighting, it comes to life in an entirely different form under backlighting:

In its fiery setting, the background transforms into a blazing red-orange infernal field, leaving the central dark geometries standing like silhouettes within a distant magma flow. The glowing aura bursts outward from within, releasing a deep emerald-green core of light at the centre.

A completely different, mystical aura emerges under cooler illumination, where an intensely neon-blue and neon-green corona electrifies the sculptural centre, outlining it and illuminating the translucent elements from within.

In neutral daylight view, the deep, cool blue of the structured background dominates, encasing the organic brown-yellow centre like a precious relic.

When the integrated light-conduction system is activated, the work transforms spectacularly: the blue background begins to glow in a mystical emerald and neon-green bioluminescent effect, making the marine structure appear alive and pulsating.

In another highly emotional lighting stage, the interior of the bloom itself awakens in a fiery infernal glow. Warm red, orange, and yellow tones radiate from deep within the sculpture’s core, making the structure appear like flowing magma on the ocean floor.

From macro and side perspectives, the technical finesse is revealed: the bloom is completely hollow and wave-like in form. Light floods through these delicate resin sails, refracts along the edges, and creates a fascinating interplay of illumination and deep shadow within the hollow interior. “Ignis Crystallus” is a highly explosive fusion of fiery energy and crystalline elegance. The core of the work is formed by a sculptural elevation reminiscent of a cluster of melting mineral crystals or freshly solidified volcanic glass. This three-dimensional structure refracts light into countless facets, shifting between transparent sections, deep blood-red veins, and rich golden inclusions along its lower edge. This crystalline centre is surrounded by a dynamically flowing, energy-charged background in blazing tones of coral, magenta, orange, and luminous pink. The piece fascinates through the coexistence of two opposing worlds: one half is dominated by powerful gold-bronze geological strata, thrust upward like tectonic plates. In contrast stands the untamed energy of the ocean, materialised in deep sapphire-blue currents and a massive, surging wave of translucent resin breaking at the centre. Along the lower edge, an earthy, sand-coloured shoreline runs through the composition. This spectacular natural scene is framed by a highly contemporary, shallow stainless-steel base frame, contrasting the archaic wildness of the artwork with clean, modern elegance.

With a record-breaking and extreme total depth of 170 mm, “Oceanic Rift” possesses an unprecedented sculptural presence. It functions in space far more as a free-standing sculpture than a traditional wall piece:

On one side, deep-black, jagged material structures form, reminiscent of volcanic rock or dark nebulae, interspersed with planetary spheres and delicate shimmering pearls. Opposite, a gigantic cosmic vortex unfolds, at whose centre a luminous galaxy appears to awaken. This artwork has been meticulously handcrafted from high-gloss resin and/or thermally formed acrylic glass. To preserve the flawless quality of these refined materials and maintain the brilliance of the colours for generations to come, please observe the following recommendations:

Cleaning: For routine care, use only an exceptionally soft, clean microfibre cloth (dry or lightly dampened with distilled water).

Avoid: Never use chemical cleaning agents, glass cleaners, alcohol-based products, or abrasive sponges. These may irreparably scratch or dull the high-gloss surfaces.

Placement: The artwork is designed exclusively for indoor display. Avoid positioning it directly above strong heat sources (e.g. radiators) or in areas with excessively high humidity.

Light Exposure: Although we use only UV-stabilised premium-grade components, we recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight in order to preserve the vibrancy and luminosity of the pigments for decades to come.

FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions

How is the artwork powered and recharged? The artwork features an integrated, concealed high-end rechargeable battery system. It can be easily recharged using a standard USB Type-C charging cable (a premium design cable is included with the artwork).

How long does the artwork remain illuminated on a single charge? Thanks to state-of-the-art, highly efficient LED technology and high-capacity rechargeable batteries, the artwork provides approximately 4 to 8 hours of continuous illumination, depending on the selected brightness level and lighting mode.

How are the different lighting effects controlled? Depending on the model and configuration of the artwork, a specially matched remote control is included. For artworks featuring a single lighting layer (e.g. pure RGB COB lighting or pure UV illumination), brightness and colour settings can be controlled directly via infrared (IR) or radio-frequency (RF) remote control. For our more advanced, multi-layer future-oriented works, an exclusive multi-zone wireless system enables completely independent control and dimming of the various lighting layers.

Are the LEDs replaceable? We exclusively use industrial-grade LEDs with a service life exceeding 50,000 hours. With daily use of four hours, this corresponds to a lifespan of more than 34 years. Should a technical issue nevertheless occur, the electronics compartment has been designed to remain accessible for authorised service professionals.
